(Regional broadcast of lecture)
One of the most important issues in current climate change negotiations is the inclusion of activities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by deforestation and degradation (REDD) in developing countries. The lecture will address three main questions:
- Why is it important to include deforestation in climate change mitigation options?
- How has the international climate change regime evolved from Rio to Copenhagen?
- What are the major issues in current REDD negotiations? The lecture will focus on aspects of geopolitics by adopting the perspective of developing countries, specifically those in Central America.
