Abstract
The “flea weevils” (Curculionidae: Curculioninae: Rhamphini) are a predominantly Holarctic group of weevils, notable for their leaf mining larval habits (Anderson 1989). The North American fauna is represented by three genera, Isochnus Thomson, Tachyerges Schönherr, and Orchestes Illiger, the latter including five native species and the introduced European elm flea weevil, Orchestes alni (L.) (Anderson 1989; Anderson et al. 2007). Orchestes alni is a pest of ornamental elms, and feeds on several species and hybrids as both adults and larvae. Larvae form blotch mines near leaf margins, and adults feed on elm leaves causing shothole-type damage (Oldham 1928).
